To begin with, you should choose the style that you love most. There are gothic lolita, sweet lolita, school lolita, classic lolita and rococo lolita, etc. These are all called lolita but have something different. So just choose one you are fond of.

Then you should buy some essentials in lolita style: a blouse, a skirt, a pair of shoes, petticoats. If you are on a very strict budget, but have an extensive wardrobe already, you may only need to invest in a skirt for now. Normal school blouses with big collars can be found in every teenagers wardrobe and if used correctly, can make a very simple but pretty blouse. Shoes may be improvised with simple pink, black or white chunky heels and a great selection of Mary-Jane shoes that can be appropriate for lolita. Petticoats are always needed, but if you have a lot of the right-sized skirts, you can pile them all on - if they make a cupcake shape then you can put off buying petticoats for a short while but don't think you will never need them - after a month you should start to get what you need.
After you have the essentials, you need to learn how to make a co-ord, all you need to do is buy a skirt, a blouse, a pair of over-the-knee socks, bloomers, a cardigan, a headdress, shoes and a bag.
